A ‘bundle’ of people have been asking about the meaning behind the name of our new Rundlestone Bar & Grill. To give an answer to this common question, the name comes from Mount Rundle located near us here in Canmore. However, calling it a mountain feels as though we are only skimming the top, as Mount Rundle is large enough to be labeled its own mountain range and encompasses individual peaks. 

Formed from outcrops of massive limestone, the peaks were named in 1858 by John Palliser after Reverend Robert Rundle; who visited the surrounding area in the 1840s. The small mountain range extends over 15 kilometers and runs parallel to the well-traveled Trans Canada Highway between Banff and Canmore, offering residents and visitors a beautiful view of the southeast end also known as Whiteman’s Gap.
This picturesque mountain is a popular destination for climbers and ‘alpine scramblers’ as it is easily accessible through Banff National Park. It serves as one of the most beloved ‘scrambles’ for experienced hikers in the area and it overlooks both the towns of Canmore and Banff.

Mount Rundle has been at the apex of many charged debates about the names of some of its peaks, but it continues to serve as a beautiful backdrop for our visitors.
