Great Fall Hikes in Canmore

For many people Fall is their favourite time to hike. There are fewer crowds, it’s not as swelteringly hot and the leaves are absolutely gorgeous. With this in mind, here are a few gorgeous hikes near Canmore that are well worth your time.

Johnston’s Canyon – Autumn is a great time to visit one of Banff’s most popular trails, especially if you’re adverse to running into many other people while you’re hiking. The running water and falls look beautiful amongst the changing leaves. This is an easier hike, and due to its popularity keep in mind that even in its less popular days you’re still unlikely to be out there alone. Still, for some the wonderful views will probably be worth it.

Grassi Lakes Trail – this shorter hike takes you on a loop with great views of Ha Ling Peak and some beautiful lakes. The colours will be stunning and you’ll get to see Canmore from higher up! There are options with this trail, either less or more difficult. Be aware that the more difficult trail will involve some light climbing.

Terrace Trail – film buffs may know Peter Lougheed Provincial Park as one of the locations used for the film Brokeback Mountain. Indeed, the beautiful views are even more spectacular in real life. On the Terrace Trail, the mountain peaks will look majestic and the pine trees will remain as green as ever.
